FBA, Logistics, Compliance and EU Expansion on Amazon

Amazon FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) is Amazon's logistics service in which Amazon stores your goods, ships them to customers and handles returns, while with FBM (Fulfillment by Merchant) you ship yourself. The topic also covers the obligations you must meet as a seller to keep your offers online, the protection of your brand and expansion into further EU countries. Mistakes here cost margin directly or lead to blocked listings: miscalculated fees, surcharges for aged inventory, missing GPSR information or missing EPR registrations. This topic page brings together our articles on these subjects.

Whether FBA or FBM fits is something you decide per item, based on cost per unit, storage time and the role of Prime in your category. FBA comes with shipping and storage fees that Amazon adjusts regularly, and it requires inventory planning that takes capacity limits and surcharges for aged inventory into account. Returns put further pressure on margin, and where they stem from wrong expectations, you reduce them with more accurate product images, clear size information and suitable packaging. The article on FBA costs lists the fees with their status and date of change.

The General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR), extended producer responsibility (EPR) and the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) require you to provide more mandatory information on Amazon: manufacturer details, a responsible person in the EU, safety information and registration numbers per country. If they are missing, Amazon can block offers. To protect your brand, you use Brand Registry to report violations, gain more control over your product data and act against hijackers and counterfeits. If your account is deactivated, you need a plan of action that documents cause, corrections and prevention.

If you want to expand into further countries, our Amazon International Expansion page describes how we select markets based on data, decide between EFN and Pan-EU and set up advertising per country. We are active on Amazon DE, UK, FR, IT, ES, NL and BE. If you want to hand over logistics, listings and advertising as a whole, the Amazon Full-Service Agency page shows how we take over your account including FBA planning. The articles do not replace legal advice; for legal questions on GPSR, EPR or an account suspension, consult a lawyer if in doubt.

Frequently asked questions

When does FBA pay off compared with FBM?

FBA pays off for products that sell quickly, are small and light and where Prime influences the purchase. FBM tends to suit large, heavy or slow-selling items where storage and shipping fees eat up the margin. Decide per item based on cost per unit rather than across the board.

What do I need to provide for GPSR and EPR on Amazon?

For GPSR, you need manufacturer details, a responsible person in the EU for non-EU manufacturers, and safety information and warnings in the local language, on the product and in the listing. For EPR, you register for packaging and other product categories depending on the country, and Amazon checks these registrations. Missing information can get your offers blocked.

What should I do if Amazon suspends my account?

Read the notification in Seller Central carefully and work out which policy is affected. Then write a plan of action covering the cause, the corrections you have made and the measures that prevent a repeat. Submit it only once the evidence is ready, because every weak submission costs time. The article on account suspension explains structure and deadlines.
